This village, 650 metres above sea level and 18 kilometres from the coast, is one of the loveliest in the Axarquia region. With a population of over 3,500, it is slightly larger than the neighbouring villages; a bustling and attractive town. Our main office is in the square in front of the 17th century church. Though Cómpeta has many modern facilities it remains a rural Spanish village: local farmers still set out early each morning to tend the olive, almond and tropical fruit groves, as well as the vineyards that produce the well known Cómpeta wine. This harvest is celebrated every August in the Noche del Vino with singing, dancing and plenty of food and drink.
