Welcome to Almáchar...Views of the area

Not very far from El Borge the town of Almáchar is located. It has a population of a little over 2.000 souls and is situated at 255 metres above sea level. There is a daily bus service to the provincial capital Malaga, 30 kilometres away and to Velez-Malaga 20 kilometres and the coast can be reached comfortably on good roads. This town was also founded by the Arabs and similar to many villages in the area its industry relies principally on the vineyards in the area which are still very productive. The village has narrow winding streets in typical Moorish fashion. The church of San Mateo is the pricipal monument, well worth a visit for its architectural interest.
