This small hamlet is a convenient stopping-off point for refreshments on the way to the northern part of the Axarquia or the province of Granada through the mountain pass at Zafarraya. There is a church here and some shops and bars from the terraces of which there are magnificent views of the mountains of Sierras Alhama and Tejeda, snowcapped in winter. It is a crossroads where for centuries travellers have stopped on their way to different destinations in the Axarquia region. From Puente Don Manuel there is quick and easy access for example to the village of Alcaucin. A motorway passes quite close to the hamlet providing an excellent connection with the coast and the new coastal motorway, Autovia del Mediterraneo which will eventually connect Cadiz with Barcelona.
