Competa, our center of operations, is a typical Andalusian village of approximately 4,500 inhabitants in the municipality, situated at an elevation of 2,000 ft. The village with its picturesque, whitewashed houses dates back to the period of the Moors. The immediate vicinity of Competa includes the Sierras Tejeda y Almijara, a 40,000 hectares national reserve.

We believe that we have discovered the most beautiful area of Andalusia, a region which is undoubtedly blessed with the best climate in Europe. This secluded paradise is proud of being the only place on the European continent where temperate,  subtropical and tropical crops are cultivated in abundance. Avocados, bananas and mangoes thrive next to tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries  and potatoes. Grapes, olives and  peaches are harvested along with apples, pears and plums. The explanation for this climatic phenomenon is to be found in the unique geographic situation of the region which lies a good deal further south than for instance some of the northern parts of Africa. The valleys here are deep and well sheltered against the northern winds by high mountain ranges which in turn supply the necessary water for irrigating the crops.
