Herradura bay meaning “ The Horseshoe bay” is a beautiful coastal community and a fishing village with plenty of lovely beaches located in the “Costa Tropical” about 60 kilometres to the east of Malaga in the province of Granada. The large mountain range “Sierra Nevada” shelters “La Herradura” which gives the area and local climate an almost tropical ambience all year round. The impressive and large horseshoe-shaped bay is sheltered and dominated by two large headlands. It is known for its crystal clear waters and for this reason it is Located just 7 km west of the coastal town of “Almuñecar”, La Herradura has two good campsites, a grand hotel and several hostals as well as good restaurants located on the beautiful “Paseo Andres Segovia” promenade. The catch of the day, sardines, are barbecued right on the beach in the famous “Chirringuita La Sardina”.popular with the old and young alike. In summer the spot is frequented mainly by Spanish holiday-making families from the city of Granada. La Herradura is not overrun by foreigners. There are excellent sites for diving near Punta de la Mona and a nudist beach “Playa Cantarijan nearby.
