Cutar is located at 32 kilometres from Malaga to which there is a daily bus service. The service extends to Velez-Malaga, 16 kilometres away and many of the neighbourig towns. It has a population of about 700 inhabitants and is 331 metres above sea level. The principal source of income in this town is typically, vineyards and olive groves. The village is dominated by the peak of Peña de Hierro y Cutar rising to 585 metres. Evidence has been found here of settlements between the Neolithic and Bronze Age. The name of the town comes from the Arabic Cautzar meaning Fountain of Life.Indeed, an Arab fountain in the village is the only one of its type in the province of Malaga. The parish church dedicated to Nuestra Señora de la Encarnacion, built at the beginning of the 16th century in the Mudejar style is of interest to the visitor. From the town there are panoramic views of the mountains and countryside.
