he region to the East of Malaga in southern Spain is known as Axarquia,...the Land to the East.... Its Sierra Almijara mountains provide a stunning backdrop to sandy beaches and the nearby blue Mediterranean. The climate is the best in Europe, being warm and sunny all year round, it is not just a summer resort.
On the southerly slopes of these mountains nestling between protected nature parks, are small, whitewashed Andalusian villages unchanged for centuries except for the discreet arrival of modern services.Down through the years we have concentrated our varied professional activities in and around these charming villages. Country Properties S.A. welcomes you to the friendly and fascinating world of the beautiful Axarquia region.

Málaga is the Provincial capital and offers superb cultural and shopping facilities. In the tapas bars in the old part of the city you can savour the finest Pata Negra hams, Manchego cheeses, fresh fish and Andalusian cuisine with a wide selection of excellent wines to accompany them. The sandy beaches and coastal resorts of Axarquía are only a short drive with the nearest golf course at Caleta only 25 minutes away... There are many locally provided activities which include horse trekking, tennis, swimming, art and photography schools and hiking.

These whitewashed mountain villages are surrounded by a wildlife reserve where mountain goats wander freely and eagles soar over the mountains. The higher peaks are snowcapped in winter. It is a stunningly beautiful setting for a holiday or a retirement home. All of the larger villages have supermarkets, banks, modern facilities and services which have been tastefully integrated to respect the historic architecture. There is an abundance of excellent cuisine at very low prices and locally produced wine and dried raisins are made from the large annual harvest of grapes.

The olive oil is wonderful. Locally grown fruit and vegetables including avocados, mangoes and other exotic fruits can be purchased fresh daily from the municipal market. There is much evidence of the Phoenicians, Romans and Moorish occupation of the area. Moorish irrigation channels are still being used and many Roman ruins can be seen on the Paseo Maritimo in Torrox Costa. Annual carnivals and fiestas, usually saints days, provide many opportunities for all ages to join in the fun with the friendly local people.
